The Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG) is looking for screenwriters to create the next great Australian television drama.

It is calling for entries for its writing for television competition Think Inside the Box. The winners will have their original work read by the scripted development team at EQ Media. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to join the AWG’s Pathways Program, an initiative that provides networking opportunities for writers and the chance to showcase their ideas to industry professionals.

The AWG hopes the competition will encourage writers to produce great new Australian screen drama to follow recent successes such as Deadline Gallipoli, The Secret River, The Broken Shore and Glitch.

The most recent winner, Christian White, says receiving the 2013 AWG Think Inside The Box prize changed his professional life.

“Not only did it give me the chance to develop my project with Matchbox Pictures, it has since led to steady writing work in the industry on a variety of other projects,” he says.
